Ritek XL-ence in Construction

Story added - 16th December 2009

Ritek’s XL Wall System is experiencing record growth in sales, due to its strength and durability, speed of construction, high quality finish and versatility in the hands of today’s leading designers and contemporary developers.

Here are just a few of our client’s success stories, using our eco-innovative wall system.

Rumba in Caloundra
Construction of Caloundra’s $85 million Rumba Resort development is now completed. Setting the benchmark in 1, 2 and 3 bedroom Resort Suites, Penthouses and Ocean Apartments the resort offers its occupants and guests all the relaxing and pampering features that define first class resorts around the world, all set in a tropical resort.

The project took around 17 months to complete and the XL Wall system was the perfect wall solution for this mixed use development which includes 42 one, and two-bedroom fully furnished resort units for holiday makers and 30 luxury beachfront apartments in two, and three-bedroom designs aimed at owner occupiers. The Ritek XL Wall System was used for the development’s permanent formwork, party walls, facades, lift shafts, stairwells, for the pool in between the buildings, for the planter boxes and ballustrades.

The Bevaqua Group’s Michael Bevaqua, son of builder-developer Aldo Bevaqua and brother and business partner to Nick said, “The main reason that we chose the Ritek XL Wall System was because we wanted to try a new product that could reduce our project’s build time and costs. We also achieved significant project savings in crane hire costs, removing trades such as plasterers and decreasing the concrete pour cycle time.”

The project took around 17 months to complete    Used in the right application it is a really good system

Rumba’s state-of-the-art function centre the “Rumba Room” offers an unforgettable event experience for either corporate or wedding functions. The all-inclusive conference facilities, heated pools, a cocktail area, day spa, gymnasium, poolside bar, and a bottom-level retail precinct incorporating fine dining restaurants and retail shops which sit above a 3 level basement car park.

“I will definitely use this XL Wall System again in future projects.”

Attractive, Durable Renders and Coatings Perfect
for Ritek’s Wall System

Realising the benefits to builders and developers of an integrated, cost effective walling system, Render Systems Australia (RSA) and Ritek® have worked closely together to develop a finished wall structure which is extremely attractive, sound and durable. RSA textures and coatings have been specifically designed and tested to suit the Ritek® XL Wall System.

RSA Sales Manager, Scott Squire says “RSA textures are not only easy to apply and guaranteed to provide an attractive finish, but they also offer superior adhesion to the Ritek wall substrate as well as between each coat.”

RSA is a division of River Sands Pty Ltd, a leading manufacturer of cement based products and renders since 1974, and part of the larger Queensland based Neumann Group of Companies.

Like all products manufactured by River Sands, RSA textures and coatings have been engineered by specialist chemists and industry experts to last, and are manufactured to strict quality assurance guidelines certified as complying to ISO 9001.

“Like the Ritek® XL Wall System, which offers project managers the flexibility to choose a number of different wall options for the one project, so too can project managers choose a number of different RSA textures and finishes in the same project – depending on budget and aesthetic requirements,” notes Mr Squire.

Mr Squire believes that one of the most important advantages of the RSA textures and coatings is the ability for them to effectively cover any wall joints.

RSA’s coatings are proven in use with Ritek’s XL Wall System, providing the coatings for the prestigious Rumba Resort and Spa (pictured above), as well as in a number of other recent Ritek wall projects.

“While the final coating is the most obvious everyone sees, the success of the system really lies beneath – with the under-coating and preparation products applied to the walling. This is ultimately what makes the finish so good in the end,” said Mr Squire.

Benefits of the RSA Coating System are that they are cost effective, versatile and provide an attractive, high quality finish. The system minimizes on-site waste, is rigorously tested and backed by a seven (7) to ten (10) year warranty.

Sustainable Housing breaks the traditional residential
building mould with Ritek’s Wall System

AUSTRALIAN Living, a Sustainable Building Management and Consultancy, has launched the Eco-Challenge to promote the affordability of building sustainable homes. The Ritek XL Wall System has provided a sustainable alternative to blockwork for this remarkable project.

Four families have now taken up the challenge to build four separate homes on a block of land in Rose Bay, Sydney. They will be working alongside some Australia’s top construction companies and their chosen architect.

"We decided to proceed with the Ritek Wall System because we could design the homes with a single skin structural wall that when combined with the Envirocrete and One Steel Reinforcing we would achieve a new solution that has a high content of recyclability," says Cameron Rosen, owner of Australian Living.

Cement is the largest contributor to Green House Gas (GHG) emissions and with each tonne of cement producing around 1 tonne of GHG. The Ritek Wall System was filled with Boral’s Envirocrete. By reducing the cement content by 60% reduces GHG emissions significantly. For every 10 cubic metres of Envirocrete supplied, GHG emissions is being reduced by over 1.2 tonnes.

Each house is using 120 cubic metres of Envirocrete therefore reducing GHG emissions by around 14 tonnes which, interestingly, is the same amount of GHG the average Australian household releases, (as calculated by the Federal Government) or the saving equivalent to driving a 2 litre car for 5 years.

To be able to construct highly rated and high performing homes, Australian Living is using commercially recognised products and working with the suppliers to help adapt them for residential use.
