BER SCHOOL PROJECT SAVES 10% IN STRUCTURAL
STEEL - 16 December 2009
A
local Sunshine Coast based company
engineered a 2,500m2 building using
a conventional Z purlin support
system for a standard COLORBOND®
sheet roof. They then provided an
alternative price adopting the Ritek®
roofing system. In completing the
re-design the result was a substantial
saving in the main structural frame
of up to 10% due to the long spanning
features of the Ritek® panels.
Construction
of Caloundra’s $85 million
Rumba Resort development is now
completed. Setting the benchmark
in 1, 2 and 3 bedroom Resort Suites,
Penthouses and Ocean Apartments.
The project took around 17 months
to complete and the XL Wall system
was the perfect wall solution for
this mixed use development.
The Ritek XL Wall System was used
for the development’s permanent
formwork, party walls, facades,
lift shafts, stairwells, for the
pool in between the buildings, for
the planter boxes and ballustrades.
The Bevaqua Group’s Michael
Bevaqua said “The main reason
that we chose the Ritek XL Wall
System was because we wanted to try
a new product that could reduce
our project’s build time.
We also made significant project
savings in crane hire costs,
removing trades such as plasterers
and decreasing the concrete pour
cycle time. I will
definitely use this XL Wall System
again in future projects.”
AFTER 25 YEARS - SUSTAINABILITY IS STILL OUR MANTRA - 16 December
2009
Ritek
is proud to again be associated
with the BPN Sustainability Awards
held in Sydney recently, through our sponsorship of the Public Building and Urban Design category. The awards are a great way to recognize
building and construction
leaders who are actively pursuing
excellence in sustainable design.
Ritek's mantra for over 25 years has been sustainability
– but what exactly is it that makes us sustainable?
ECOTEK IS RIGHT CHOICE FOR CREMATORIUM AND THE ENVIRONMENT
- 16 December 2009
The
Kingaroy Crematorium is a new
state of the art facility located
on the outskirts of Kingaroy Queensland.
Ritek supplied
1,670m2 of ecotek roof panels for the $3.4m Kingaroy Crematorium
facility. Ritek’s ecotek® Roof
Panel comprises a Trimdeck profile
upper sheet, EPS insulation and
a corrugated bottom sheet.
The project builder was impressed with the roof system and recognised the significant savings through reduction in building components as well as removing trades usually associated with traditional roof truss construction.

On
the verandah of his Architecture
studio in the Australian beachside
town of Casuarina, in Northern New
South Wales, Scott Carpenter gestures
towards the surrounding ‘timeless
beach homes’ which showcase
the work of some of Australia’s
leading residential Architects.
“I’m privileged and
proud to be involved in a built
environment dominated by so many
award winning Architects”
says Scott.
It is a pleasant surprise to come
across such stunningly designed
homes nestled amongst the natural
coastal environment. Caring for
his surroundings is obviously important
to Scott and the Casuarina Township
has been an integral part of Scott’s
short but remarkable career to date.
The surrounding homes are a testament
to his intuitive talent and provide
clues as to his strong affinity
for the environment.
The
Gold Coast’s Ecovillage at
Currumbin, has recently been awarded
three prestigious sustainability
awards.
The Ecovillage has been acknowledged
as the world leader in ecologically
sustainable development. Beating
more than 100 international commercial
and residential developments, the
Ecovillage took out the highest
honour in word real estate Environmental
Development category at the International

Prix d’Excellence Awards in
the Netherland’s recently.
In the same week, the Ecovillage
was awarded the United Nations Association
of Australia’s Environmental
Development Award.
There
is still some space on the award
wall at Cooroy’s Ritek Building
Solutions. But it is getting full.
And another award may be on the
way if architect Allen Jack and
Cottier pick one up at the 2008
Royal Australian Institute of Architects
Awards because the architect insisted
on the use of Ritek’s Eco-Roof
for a $1.3 million Berry Recreational
Hall in NSW.
The award up for grabs is the prestigious
Suliman Medal, given to the most
outstanding project entered into
the NSW architecture awards.
“It will be an indirect win
(if it happens),” Ritek chief
executive officer and managing director
Gayne Emblin said.
Hamilton
Island Resort attracts visitors
from across the globe and is one
of the greatest holiday and lifestyle
residential communities in the world.
And for the staff of Hamilton Island
it has just got even better. With
the island growing at a phenomenal
rate, additional staff accommodation
was a necessity and was a component
of a $12 million upgrade of the
island.
Australia’s leading remote
area specialist, Ricon was called
upon for the project which included
the construction of 64 staff accommodation
units in two buildings. John Jenkins,
Principal of Ricon said, “Being
on an island in a remote location,
the project presented unique challenges.
The site was quite rugged and the
island experiences tropical weather
conditions so we needed to utilise
a building system that was quick,
easy and could stand up to the environment.
The design of the building needed
to be resource efficient and make
the most of the limited space available.
