After 25 Years - Sustainability Is Still Our Mantra

Ritek is proud to again
be associated with the BPN Sustainability
Awards held in Sydney recently and considers
them a great way to recognize building
and construction leaders who are actively
pursuing excellence in sustainable design.
Ritek was once again proud to be involved
in BPN’s Sustainability Awards
held in Sydney in November 2009, as
sponsor of the Public Building and Urban
Design category.
Ritek's mantra for over 25 years has been sustainability
– but what exactly is it that makes us sustainable?
The best-known definition of sustainability
or sustainable development is the definition
by the World Commission on Environment
and Development. This suggests that
sustainability is defined as "forms
of progress that meet the needs of the
present without compromising the ability
of future generations to meet their
needs."
Environmental sustainability refers
to the environmental actions or impacts
of everything we do. In moving towards
sustainability, we are attempting to
reduce our ecological footprint. This
equates to reducing the amount of resources
we use (and buy), the waste
and the emissions we produce.
Ritek’s firm commitment to supplying
sustainable products to the building
industry has been confirmed through our
external audit by Eco Specifier, an online
knowledge base which specialises in
marketing products that are achieving
reduced environmental and health impact
outcomes in the built environment industry.
A Green Star pre-assessment was conducted
by EcoSpecifier for both our Custom
Roof and our XL Wall panels. The assessment
confirmed that Green Star credits points
can be achieved by including our products
in building projects.
Not only are our products environmentally
sustainable, our company also monitors
its manufacturing operation’s
impact on the environment and has done
so since inception. Long before sustainability
had become ‘popular’, when
Ritek Building Solutions was founded, the
aim was to encourage sustainability
and efficiency in the building industry.
As a sponsor for awards such as the
BPN Sustainability Awards, we hope to
bring recognition to the greatest achievers
in the built environment. We believe
it is vital to demonstrate to
the rest of the industry the importance of higher standards.
